A Quick Guide to Nigerian Party Culture for Our Non-Nigerian Guests

We're thrilled you'll be joining us to celebrate Buki’s Fabulous 50th Birthday! Nigerian celebrations are lively, vibrant, and filled with joy. Here’s what you can expect at a traditional Nigerian party

Fashion & Attire:

Guests often dress up in colorful traditional outfits called "Aso Ebi," which signifies unity and friendship among attendees. Even if you aren't wearing the Aso Ebi, feel free to join the fun by dressing in vibrant colors or formal attire. The colors of the day are Peach, Antique and Rose gold—feel free to incorporate these into your outfit!

Music & Dancing:

Prepare for lots of dancing! Nigerian parties are famous for their upbeat music, featuring Afrobeat, Highlife, Juju, and contemporary Nigerian hits. Don’t be shy—everyone is encouraged to join in!

Food & Drinks:

You'll enjoy delicious Nigerian cuisine, which often includes jollof rice, fried plantains, assorted meats, efo riro, fufu, puff-puff, and more. If you're adventurous, don't hesitate to taste everything!

"Spraying" Money:

A fun tradition you might notice is guests dancing up to celebrants to "spray" them with money—typically single dollar bills—as a gesture of love, appreciation, and celebration. It's completely optional, but feel free to participate if you're comfortable!

Community & Joy:

Nigerian parties are warm and welcoming. Feel free to mingle, ask questions, and enjoy the joyful atmosphere. It’s all about celebrating life and friendships. We can't wait to celebrate with you!

See you at the party!
